There are two main aspects to Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Firstly it is coding the page so that your key phrases are emphasized. We do this for free as part of every website package. The second aspect is link building which is getting other sites (in the same industry, ideally) to link to you.

SEO / Search Engine Myths.

  1. META tags help you rank well. This used to be the case but now, except for the Title tag, the major search engines do not use tags.

  2. Page rank is the main determining factor in ranking well. Page rank is only one factor in determining how well a website ranks in the search engines.

  3. A SEO expert can guarantee a number 1 spot. No one can make this guarantee. If anyone does then they are lying, cheating or delusional.

 

What not to do if you want your website to rank well with the major search engines. Up Arrow

  1. Have your website consist entirely of Flash - Search engines cannot "read" Flash and therefore your site will not be picked up by the search engines.

  2. Use Flash movies or DHTML/JavaScript pull down menus, exclusively for your navigation. Same as number 1 above; the search engines cannot "read" this.

  3. Use Frames on your website. Same as number 1 above; the search engines cannot "read" this.

  4. Using lots of images. Remember that the search engines cannot "see" images so if you have incorporated important text in your images it is just a waste so far as the search engines are concerned.

  5. Trick the search engines by using so called "Black Hat" techniques such as:
    1. keyword stuffing,
    2. using hidden keywords (Example: having white text on a white background),
    3. using doorway pages that exist only for the search engines and have visitors redirected to your site,
    4. links to your site from bad neighborhoods (Example: websites that are penalized by Google.)

    These "Black Hat" techniques may work for awhile but eventually you will be caught and probably be de listed by Google

On Page SEO:

We work with you in selecting key phrases that describe your organization. The key phrases must accurately describe your services or organization. The key phrases should also be realistic. For example, if you have a small hotel in Small Town, USA, then do not pick "Hotels" or "USA hotels". These key phrases are too broad and you will never rank well with those terms. For example, in August, 2008 a Yahoo! search for "Hotels USA" had "hotels.com" come up #1. It is unrealistic for a new website to expect to compete well against "Hotels.com". A better search term might be "Hotels in Small Town, USA".

Once the key phrases are chosen we do the following:

  • Code your website's Meta Tags and produce copy writing to promote your keywords in the search engines.

  • Prepare an XML site map, which is a list of all your pages and will help the search engines locate and index all your pages.

  • Link to your new website from ImaginexMarketing.com. This also will aid in having the search engines find and index your website.

This is a very time consuming process and can take weeks or even months for progress to be seen. It consists primarily of link building and then tweaking your keywords usage on your website.
